The Department of Veterinary Laboratory Diagnostics was established in December 2012 and is supervised by the first former Head of Department, Professor Dr. Latiffah Hassan from December 2012 until June 30, 2022. The main focus of this department is the management of professional services for diagnosis and income generation activities under the unit known as the Veterinary Laboratory Services Unit (VLSU).

VLSU consists of a combination of nine laboratories and staff from the Department of Veterinary Pathology & Microbiology, the Department of Veterinary Clinical Studies, and the staff of the Veterinary Laboratory Diagnosis Department that have been established since 2004. This unit is active in offering services to customers from inside and outside UPM.

The laboratories are:

• Virology Laboratory
• Histopathology Laboratory
• Post Mortem Laboratory
• Aquatic Laboratory
• Pipette Calibration Laboratory
• Public Health Laboratory
