|
Objective : |
|
At the end of the
course, the student would : |
- principles of
pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, chemotherapy and
toxicology and variation in response and disposition of drugs among
species.
-
pharmacological action mechanisms , structural activity relationship and
the side effects/toxicity of various groups of therapeutically agents
in veterinary medicine
- chemical
properties, action mechanisms and biological effects of various poisons
including plant and animal based poison and the principles of treatment.
|
|
Synopsis : |
|
The course provides
an understanding of pharmacology and a basis for the use of drugs in the
treatment and management of animals. Emphasis is given to the effect of
drugs and poisons on biological systems, their mechanisms and sites of
action as well as the therapeutic application, toxicity/side effects of
various groups of drugs used in veterinary medicine. Considerable
attention will also be given to variation in response and disposition of
various therapeutic agents. Factors modifying the
effectiveness/toxicity of drugs and the general principles of treatment
of poison will also be discussed. |
