Graduate credit
Students may receive graduate credits for all courses taken at:

graduate level
-
(5000 -level series)

(6000 -level series)
Transfer of credit
A
student may transfer credits from another institution:
-
the total number of credits exempted should not excedd 30% of
the total credits required.
-
credits must be equivalent to grade "B" in UPM.
-
credits must be obtained within the previous 5 years of the
students' registration with UPM.
-
courses must be appropriate to the student's programme of
study.
-
application can be made to the Graduate School through the
Graduate Committee of the Faculty.
Grade requirements
To be in good standing, graduate students need:
Qualifying examination
-
must be taken and passed by all doctorate students
-
must be taken after two semesters of enrolment in the
programme.
-
conducted by the student's Supervisory Committee.
-
may either be written, or oral, or both.
-
students are allowed three attempts to pass and they have to
leave the programme if failed.
Deferment
Students must maintain continuous registration until a thesis is submitted
except in special circumstances.
-
deferment of study for up to two semesters may be allowed.
-
only two deferments are allowed for each student.
-
request
for deferment is made to the Deputy Dean of Graduate Studies at the
beginning of the semester.
Residence requirements
All students must fulfill a minimum residence requirement equivalent to 9
credits in a semester or 12 credits in two consecutive semesters. The
requirement may be fulfilled by coursework or research work on campus.
Graduation
To graduate, students must:
-
achieve a cumulative average of at least 3.00 in all graduate
courses taken.
-
submit a thesis acceptable to the Board of Examiners.
-
fulfill the resident requirement and pay all fees due.
