Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM)

 

The Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM) degree is specially formulated for graduates in veterinary science. It supplements the knowledge and skill in veterinary clinical practice or veterinary laboratory practice. It is a full time, 12 months intensive programme, or a 24 months part time programme (Clinical Veterinary Practice only), which include lectures, practicals, special topics, seminar and project. Candidates must fulfill the resident requirement of not less than two semesters for the full time programme or 2-3 weeks/semester for the part time programme and accumulate a minimum of 36 credits.

 

Objectives

 

At the end of the programme, candidates will: 

  • obtain detailed knowledge on important diseases of one or more animal species of veterinary importance.

  • improve skill in diagnosis, treatment and control of diseases.

  • understand and appreciate their role in disease control.

 

Duration of the Programme

 

One calendar year, beginning from the first semester until the end of the second semester the following year, for the full-time programme.  Two calendar years beginning from the May semester until the end of April two years later for the part-time programme.

 

Programme Structure

 

The programme consists of two modules:

 

Module A - Veterinary Clinical Practice

  • for veterinarians who are in clinical practice wanting to advance their clinical skills.

  • specialisation in one or more of the following animal species: ruminant, pigs, poultry, horses, dogs, cats, wildlife and aquatic animals.

 

Module B - Veterinary Laboratory Practice

  • for veterinarians whose carrier is in veterinary diagnostic laboratory.

  • involves one or more of the following aspect: Veterinary Diagnostic Pathology, Veterinary Diagnostic Microbiology and Veterinary Diagnostic Parasitology.

 

Supervisory Committee

 

An advisory commitee, appointed by the Faculty is responsible for coordinating the programme.
