Admission Requirements

The minimum admission requirement for Masters programme at the Faculty is a Cummulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5, or a second class upper degree or a 'C+' average scholastic record.  Additional Faculty requirements are as follows:

Master of Veterinary Medicine (MVM)

For the MVM degree, the DVM degree from UPM or its equivalent is required.  However, those with a Bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine not meeting these requirements may be admitted provided evidence can be furnished of working experience of not less than one year in either veterinary clinical practice or veterinary laboratory practice.

Master of Science (MS)

The admission requirement for the MS degree is either the DVM or a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from UPM or any other recognised university or any other qualifications accepted by the University Senate.

Master of Veterinary Science (MVSc)

The admission requirement for the MVSc is the DVM from UPM or its equivalent from other recognised universities. Those with a Bachelor’s degree in veterinary science are also eligible.

Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

A candidate for the PhD degree programme should normally possess a Masters degree from UPM or any other recognised university.  A candidate who does not possess a Master's degree must register initially for a Master's degree and after completed at least a semester of the Masters programme, may, subject to the approval of the Board of Graduate Studies, be admitted as a candidate for the PhD degree.  All PhD degree candidates are required to pass a competency examination (a written and an oral examination) after five (5) semesters of cumulative enrolment.
 

Language requirements

  • there is no specific language requirements by the Faculty but students should have a working knowledge of English for reviewing the literature and writing the thesis.

  • the medium of instruction may be in English, Bahasa Malaysia or both.

  • special language courses are available for graduate students to acquire fluency.

 

Student Status

   

Full-time status  

  • students fully committed to graduate study and devote all of their study time to work directly related to their academic programme.

  • students must register a minimum of 9 credits per semester either in coursework or thesis work.

  • international students, holders of scholarship and graduate assistants hold this status.

 

Part-time status  

  • students fully committed to graduate study and devotes part of their study time to work directly related to their academic programme.

  • register a minimum of  6 credits per semester  either in coursework or thesis work
