FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Fellowship, scholarship, assistantships are usually available for postgraduate students, depending on their availability and academic qualification. Financial assistance are available from institutions and organisations, such as the Malaysian Ministry of Education.

  • Scholarships

Scholarships are usually awarded by the university, public and private institutions, or individual donors. Generally, the majority of scholarships from public institution are reserved for Malaysian students. However, there are several Malaysian government scholarships available to the international students.

  • Fellowship

Awarded based on merit and recommendation by the department. Some fellowships offered by UPM cover tuition fees and provide monthly allowances.

  • Assistantship

Teaching and research assistantships provided by UPM are usually for students in the PhD programmes. These financial assistants are given based on hourly rates. Tuition fees may also be awarded. Under this plan, the holder of the assistantship is required to teach academic courses as stipulated by the department.

 

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE UNIT

The Financial Assistance Unit of the School of Graduate Studies is the first place to refer for information on financial assistance available to graduate students. The Students Affairs, Learning Support and Publication Unit of the Financial Assistance Unit is responsible for the management and distribution of scholarships and fellowships to graduate students.
